Seatbelts and child restraints

The law
Kansas law requires all occupants of the front seat of a passenger vehicle manufactured with safety belts, to have that safety belt securely fastened around occupants at all times while the vehicle is in motion.

Kansas law also requires every driver who transports a child under the age of 14 in a passenger vehicle on a highway, provide for the protection of that child by properly using an approved safety restraining system.

For a child under the age of four years, the safety restraining system used must be of a type approved by the Secretary of Transportation for the State of Kansas. A child seat with this approval will satisfy this law. For a child of four to 14 years, the use of a lap and shoulder belt system is acceptable.
