Who can purchase a firearm?
Residents may go to a federally licensed firearms dealer to fill out a "Statement of Intent to Obtain a Handgun" and certify that he/she is not:
- under indictment for or convicted of a felony

Purchasing from a dealer
Dealers are required to complete the form and verify they have reviewed valid government-issued documentation identifying buyer’s name, address, date of birth and photograph. Within one day, the dealer must contact the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), and provide the buyer's name, address and date of birth to the BATF. If you are purchasing a handgun from an individual, this process is not required.
Fees
No fee is charged for the processing done by dealers or the BATF.
