The Lenexa Police Department is organized into three main divisions: the Patrol Division, the Investigative Services Bureau and the Staff Services Division.

Patrol Division

Patrol is the largest and most visible division of the police department. Commanded by Capt. Tom Hongslo, patrol personnel respond to calls for service and conduct proactive community patrols, 24 hours a day, every day.

The Patrol Division consists of the Directed Patrol Unit, Traffic Safety Unit, Tactical Team, Crisis Intervention Team, Canine Unit, School Resource Unit, Animal Control, Crime Prevention, Crime Resistance Community Policing and other related services. Officers are eligible to become members of the sub-units or undertake collateral assignments after meeting the prerequisite as a member of the patrol unit.

Investigative Services Bureau (ISB)

Commanded by Capt. Don Krone, the primary function of the Investigative Services Bureau is to conduct proactive and reactive criminal investigations. The bureau consists of General Assignment, Drug Enforcement and High Tech Crimes detectives. The unit is supported by a civilian crime analyst. Patrol officers are eligible to transfer to ISB as they meet the qualifications and positions become available.

Staff Services Division

The primary function of the Staff Services Division is to provide and manage communications, information technology and related technical responsibilities within the department. Led by Capt. Frank Ise, Staff Services Division consists of Public Service (Station) officers, Information Technology, Communications Unit, Technical Support Unit and volunteers. Most positions in Staff Services are civilian.
