Senior programs

Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department offers seasonal and year-round, free or low-cost programming for seniors.

Bingo
- Every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Senior Center. Prizes awarded for all bingos, and there is no charge to play. Enjoy lunch prior to bingo - reserve a spot with the Johnson County nutrition program at least 24 hours in advance by calling 913.888.6141.

Open Cards
- Join your friends at the Senior Center for a friendly game of cards. Play Canasta/Skipbo/Upwords Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Pinochle play is Friday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Bridge
– The first, third, fourth and fifth Wednesday of each month from 12:45 to 3:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. A donation of $0.50 per person is requested.

Wii Action for Seniors
– Get involved in this action-packed computer game that simulates popular sports and activities, such as bowling, tennis, ping-pong and more. Guaranteed to get you on your feet and having fun! Easy to learn and a great way to gain new skills and promote physical and mental activity. Tournaments, class instruction and open play are available. Call 477.7105 for more information. Wii Action for Seniors is offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Weekly Senior Dances
– Bring your friends and meet new people for dancing and mingling every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center. Singles welcome. Live entertainment provided by KC Swing. A donation of $4 is suggested. (No dances will be held on the following dates: May 28, June 25, July 2, 9, 16 and 23.)

Hooked on Books Club
– Attention book lovers! Join us on the fourth Thursday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Community Center. Members choose books and facilitate discussions. The club is open to adults and seniors. There is no fee; bring your own book. Upcoming book selections:

  • May 24 – Caleb’s Crossing by Geraldine Brooks
  • June 28 – Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
  • July 26 – Homecoming of Samuel Lake by Jenny Wingfield
  • Aug. 23 – Old School by Tobias Wolff

Senior Parties – Make new acquaintances and catch up with old friends while you enjoy games, prizes and activities. Parties start at 12:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. Come dressed according to the theme:

  • June 13 – 50s Party

Senior Cinema – Join us on the first Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. for popcorn and a movie on the big-screen TV at the Senior Center. Admission is free! Advance registration is requested. Schedule of movies:

  • June 7 – “Courageous”
  • July 5 – “Warrior”
  • Aug. 2 – “Big Miracle” (tentative)
